WHen Life Gives you Lemons...

2017 Ladies' Day

Our speaker

Donna Drain was born and raised in Navarro County. She is the daughter of the late Alon and Lois Gaines. Donna is most proud that she is a member of a family that has been part of the Lord’s Church for six generations (and counting).

She and her husband, Mike have been married 41 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Zach & Zip Drain. They also have two lovely daughters-in-law, Courtney and Sarah. Her family has also been blessed with 5 wonderful grandsons ranging from 1 to 7 years old. And if you want to know more about them and how exceptional they are, all you have to do is ask!

Donna has been a member of the Church for 52 years and has been privileged to be a Bible teacher for most of those years. In fact, one of her very first students was Westhill’s own, Sharon Mahoney.  Donna was in junior high and her first Bible class was made up of 4th & 5th graders. She is still not sure who was leading whom at the time.

She taught the 3rd grade class at the former College Street congregation in Waxahachie for almost 30 years and before leaving that area was honored to have taught more than one generation from several families. She currently serves on the teaching team for the 1st graders here at Westhill and enjoys most of all, teaching Ladies’ classes; whether in settings such as this or full 13 week series.

During the past 30 years, Donna has spent time in the mission field and one of her life’s goals is to return to Romania one day. She enjoys one-on-one Bible studies and developing Bible study lesson series.

She has been a pharmacist for 42 years. The last 26 of those years she has served as a clinical pharmacist in the inpatient hospital setting. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas.

In her spare time, she loves to read, to play with her grandsons, and to spend time in the country watching the birds and other critters around the lake.  Her goals for the future include getting back in a mission field, taking art & photography classes and writing more.

For 2017, she hopes to accomplish her personal Bible study goals, and after retirement hopes to travel more and generally de-clutter her life!
